Ceramic coating is a popular choice for protecting your car’s appearance. While it can’t completely eliminate scratches and damage, the extra layer does help protect your car’s paint, and it also makes your car easier to clean.

But once you’ve had ceramic coating applied to your car, how do you take care of it? Here are a few tips to ensure you get the best experience with your ceramic coated vehicle.

Immediately After Application

Although ceramic coating is valued for its durability, it needs time to reach that strong, hard shine. So right after you have the ceramic coating applied, take a little extra care with your car. While you can drive it 24 hours after the coating has been applied, be careful of where you drive. Until your coating has finished curing, contact with water can cause problems. So stick to clean, dry streets, and stay away from sprinklers. If you’re expecting rain in the next few days, go ahead and pull under the carport.

Washing Methods

Just like you should avoid any other kind of water for the first 24 hours after having your ceramic coating applied, you shouldn’t rush out to the car wash first thing, either. Automated car washes also aren’t the best approach for getting your ceramic coated car washed at any time, so always stick to hand washing with proper solutions. Always clean your washing equipment to avoid scratching the coating with dirt being carried around, and avoid cleaning solutions with isopropyl alcohol, since it can dull and damage the finish.

Although it takes a little extra effort, your ceramic coating is an investment, and taking care of it well will help it last longer and continue to protect your paint with a bright, beautiful shine.
